Captain David Backes and Patrik Berglund scored for the Blues, who improved to 17-0-1 against Central Division opponents and 3-0-0 versus the Avalanche this season.

PA Parenteau tallied and Semyon Varlamov stopped 23 shots for Colorado, which saw its four-game winning streak come to an end. Center Paul Stastny suffered a back injury during his first shift of the game and did not return.

T.J. Oshie fed Backes for a tap-in on the doorstep at 7:03 of the second period to open the scoring. Berglund doubled the advantage by collecting the puck out of the air and firing a wrist shot past Varlamov 3:53 into the third.

Parenteau halved the deficit by firing a rebound around Miller at 8:57 after Matt Duchene created an opportunity from behind the net. Miller robbed Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog on a chance in the slot with six minutes remaining to preserve the lead.
