Vanek opened the scoring 6:41 into the game with a quick shot from the slot off a drop pass from Cal Clutterbuck and fired the puck through traffic during a power play 58 seconds later for his 21st goal. Matthias intercepted a clearing attempt and batted home the rebound of Upshall’s shot with 1:45 remaining in the second period, but Strome restored New York’s two-goal advantage 59 seconds afterward.
