Sharks 4, Devils 2: Rookie Matt Nieto scored the go-ahead goal 6:20 into the third period as visiting San Jose skated to its fourth win in five games.
Raffi Torres netted his third goal in two contests, Patrick Marleau recorded a tally and an assist and Logan Couture also scored for the Sharks, who completed a two-game season sweep of New Jersey. Joe Pavelski notched two assists and Alex Stalock turned aside 21 shots in the win.
Adam Henrique scored his fourth goal in three contests and set up Patrik Elias' tally late in the second period. Cory Schneider finished with 18 saves for the Devils, who were denied in their bid for a season high-tying three-game winning streak.
With the score tied at 2-2, the left-handed Nieto sent a one-timer from just above the right faceoff circle past Schneider for his seventh goal. Marleau provided insurance with 2:25 remaining, intercepting Devils defenseman Eric Gelinas' clearing attempt before snapping a shot from the slot past Schneider.
Elias showed determination en route to giving New Jersey a 2-1 lead with 5:38 remaining in the second period. The veteran was knocked to the ice before regaining his footing and deflecting defenseman Jon Merrill's point shot past Stalock. San Jose answered 92 seconds later as Torres completed a give-and-go with Pavelski by tapping the puck past a diving Schneider.
GAME NOTEBOOK: New Jersey LW Ryane Clowe was facing his former team for the first time since being sent to the New York Rangers one day prior to last season's trade deadline. ... Elias has recorded two goals and four assists in his last three games. ... San Jose drew first blood at 3:26 of the second period as Schneider had difficulty playing the puck behind the net before temporarily setting himself to stop a point shot. Schneider tried to sweep the loose puck into the corner, but it went right to Couture, who scored the easy goal from the right doorstep.
