Flames 4, Islanders 2:
Defenseman Dennis Wideman and Mikael Backlund each recorded a goal and an assist as Calgary earned its third regulation road win since the end of November.

David Jones and rookie Sean Monahan also scored for the Flames, who improved to 6-3-3 against the Metropolitan Division - the only division against which they have a winning record. Reto Berra made 28 saves in his second straight start.

Defensemen Thomas Hickey and Calvin de Haan tallied for the Islanders, who fell to 8-13-8 at home. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 18 shots.

De Haan fired a wrist shot through traffic from the top of the left faceoff circle 7:31 into the third period to tie the game at 2-2. Matt Stajan’s shot from a sharp angle hit Jones in front and squeezed between Nabokov and the right post with 5:32 remaining to put Calgary back in front and Backlund added an empty-net goal to seal the win.

Monahan opened the scoring by batting a loose puck in the slot over Nabokov’s glove 14:15 into the second period. Wideman roofed a wrist shot from the left circle during a power play 3:53 later to extend the lead, but Hickey halved the deficit by burying a rebound with 6.1 seconds remaining in the session.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Monahan has collected five points in his last seven games. The 19-year-old is third among rookies with 16 goals. … Calgary won at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum for the first time since Jan. 6, 2004. … The Islanders went 0-for-5 on the power play, extending their drought with the man advantage to 0-for-30.
