Penguins 6, Islanders 4: Captain Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz each scored a goal and set up two others as visiting Pittsburgh overcame an early deficit to topple New York.

Rookie Olli Maatta collected a goal and an assist, fellow defenseman Kris Letang added a power-play tally and Evgeni Malkin and Brandon Sutter also scored. Blue-liner Matt Niskanen notched two assists to extend his point streak to a career-high six games and Jeff Zatkoff finished with 30 saves as the Penguins improved to 7-1-1 in January.

Michael Grabner collected a goal and an assist and Brock Nelson tallied for the third time in four games. Kyle Okposo and Josh Bailey also scored while Kevin Poulin stopped 23 shots for the Islanders, who fell for only the fourth time in 14 outings (10-4-0).

Pittsburgh seized a 3-2 lead at 5:35 of the second period as Kunitz fed a trailing Maatta, who shifted to his backhand before slipping the puck inside the right post. The Penguins controlled the puck throughout a power-play opportunity before Letang deposited Crosby's diagonal feed past Poulin to cap a run of four unanswered goals.

Bailey trimmed the deficit by scoring on a breakaway 3:10 into the third period, but Malkin restored the two-goal advantage less than three minutes later by converting James Neal's pass at the left doorstep. Okposo's sharp-angle shot handcuffed Zatkoff as the puck trickled across the goal line at 10:55, but Sutter's empty-net tally ended the threat.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Crosby has tormented the Islanders in his career, recording 83 points (25 goals, 58 assists) in 45 regular-season games. ... The Islanders wasted little time opening the scoring as D Thomas Hickey's shot deflected to Grabner, who deposited the puck past Zatkoff at 1:39 of the first period. Nelson tallied nearly seven minutes later, scoring on a 2-on-1 rush, but Kunitz answered 71 seconds afterward with a blast from the high slot and set up Crosby for a tap-in shortly thereafter. ... Niskanen has recorded two goals and seven assists during his point streak. ... New York LW Thomas Vanek saw his six-game point streak come to an end.
