Devils 4, Canadiens 1: Martin Brodeur turned aside 29 shots against his hometown team and Jaromir Jagr scored his 695th career goal to move into sole possession of seventh place in NHL history as visiting New Jersey salvaged the finale of its three-game season series versus Montreal.

Adam Henrique and Dainius Zubrus had a goal and an assist apiece to match Jagr, who moved ahead of Hall-of-Famer Mark Messier with the first-period tally. Rookie defenseman Eric Gelinas also scored and Ryane Clowe notched two assists to extend his point streak to five games as the Devils improved to 3-0-2 in that stretch.

Although Brodeur has not disclosed his future plans, the 41-year-old Montreal native acquitted himself well in perhaps his final game at the Bell Centre. The future Hall-of-Famer stopped 23 shots over the first two periods to improve to 45-19-1 with five ties against the Canadiens.

Gelinas gave New Jersey a 2-1 lead at 1:20 of the second period after his blast from inside the blue line sailed past a screened Carey Price (15 saves). Henrique tapped home a loose puck on the doorstep nearly three minutes later before Zubrus sealed the win with an empty-net tally.

Max Pacioretty scored his team-leading 20th goal by beating Brodeur over the glove from the upper edge of the right circle to open the scoring exactly seven minutes into the contest. Jagr answered over 10 minutes later by maneuvering his way into a better shooting lane within the right circle before flipping the puck past a screened Price to end his 10-game goal drought.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hall-of-Famer Mike Gartner resides in sixth place on the NHL's all-time list with 708 goals. ... Zubrus' assist on Jagr's goal was his first point in 11 games. ... Montreal C David Desharnais sat out with the flu, prompting coach Michel Therrien to insert D Francis Bouillon into the lineup.
