Stars 5, Kings 2: Captain Jamie Benn collected a goal and two assists as visiting Dallas denied Los Angeles rookie Martin Jones of tying the NHL record for goaltending wins to begin a career.
Tyler Seguin scored and set up a goal while rookie Valeri Nichushkin, Cody Eakin and Shawn Horcoff also tallied for the Stars, who improved to 4-1-1 in their last six games. Kari Lehtonen finished with 30 saves in the victory.
Justin Williams scored for the second straight game to notch his team-leading 13th goal. Williams also assisted on Jarret Stoll's tally and Jones yielded a career-high four goals on 23 shots for the Kings, who saw their five-game home winning streak come to an end and fell for just the second time in 11 overall contests.
Seguin's brilliant diagonal feed from the left faceoff circle to the lower end of the right found Nichushkin, who slapped the puck into the net during a power play at 5:07 of the second period to give Dallas a 3-2 lead. Eakin provided insurance with 4:48 remaining in the third by putting a shot under the crossbar as the 23-year-old Jones fell one win short in his bid to match Ray Emery's mark of nine victories to begin a career - although the former Ottawa netminder accomplished the feat over several seasons (2002-03 to 2005-06).
Benn's backhander from the right circle squirted inside the near post gave Dallas a 2-1 lead at 6:10 of the first period. Stoll leveled the contest 10 1/2 minutes later with a blast from the top of the right circle.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Williams, who recorded two goals and an assist in Los Angeles' 5-2 victory over Dallas on Oct. 19, cleaned up the rebound of Anze Kopitar's shot to open the scoring 2:28 into the contest. ... Seguin, who scored and set up a goal in the previous meeting, answered 80 seconds later with a quick shot from the slot. ... Horcoff was awarded a goal after he was pulled down on a breakaway with 1:09 remaining in the contest.
