Flames 2, Hurricanes 1 (OT): Defenseman Chris Butler scored at 4:56 of overtime as host Calgary edged Carolina hours after firing general manager Jay Feaster.

Enforcer Brian McGrattan also tallied and Paul Byron notched two assists for the Flames, who have allowed two goals or fewer in five of their last six games. Karri Ramo made 29 saves, including one on Jeff Skinner's penalty shot with 5:25 remaining in regulation.

With a shootout looming, Butler unleashed a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle that got past a screened Justin Peters for his second goal of the season. The blue-liner had not tallied since Nov. 1 against Detroit.

Skinner scored his 11th goal and Peters turned aside 28 shots for the Hurricanes, who fell to 0-1-2 on their four-game road trip. Carolina has earned at least one point in eight of its last 11 road contests (5-3-3).

After a scoreless first period, McGrattan gave Calgary the lead with 2:11 remaining in the second as he beat Peters from the left faceoff circle for his first goal in 30 games and seventh in 261 career contests. Skinner forged a tie with 8:50 left in the third, converting a cross-slot pass from Tuomo Ruutu for his seventh goal in six contests.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Flames also relieved assistant GM John Weisbrod of his duties on Thursday. ... Carolina RW Alexander Semin returned to the lineup after missing 12 games with a concussion. LW Drayson Bowman also was back following a three-game absence due to a lower-body injury. ... Calgary also got back the services of a pair of players as TJ Galiardi returned after sitting out six contests with back spasms and fellow LW Curtis Glencross played for the first time since Nov. 5 due to a knee injury.
