After squandering a 4-1 lead, Edmonton received a power-play opportunity 19 seconds into overtime when Carolina defenseman Justin Faulk was called for boarding. The Oilers took full advantage as Eberle received a cross-crease pass from Nugent-Hopkins and fired the puck past Cam Ward (24 saves) from the left side for his 11th goal.

Edmonton needed only 93 seconds to take the lead as Hall received a backhand pass from Gagner and beat Ward from the right faceoff circle for his fifth goal in three games. Tuomo Ruutu forged a tie when he buried his own rebound during a power play at 6:19, but Hall set up Yakupov in the left circle less than five minutes later for a 2-1 edge.

Nugent-Hopkins beat Ward from the right circle with 1:46 remaining in the first and Joensuu converted a feed from behind the net by Mark Arcobello 1:40 into the second to make it 4-1. Jordan Staal began Carolina's comeback at 9:37 and captain Eric Staal scored while short-handed 7:47 into the third before Skinner forged a tie with 5:14 left as his turnaround slap shot from high along the right-wing boards found its way just inside the left post.
