Rick Nash also scored and Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 27 shots to give the Rangers momentum heading into a nine-game homestand. Lundqvist had his shutout bid foiled with 2:06 to play in his first start since signing a seven-year contract extension.

Tyler Ennis netted the lone goal and Ryan Miller made 28 saves for the Sabres, who fell to 1-6-1 in their last eight games and have scored only nine goals in that span.

Nash put the Rangers on top with 2:13 left in the opening period. A touch pass by Derek Stepan sprung Nash down the left side and he cut to the net before pulling the puck back and sneaking it past the right skate of Miller.

Richards doubled the lead on the power play at 8:29 of the third period, beating Miller with a sharp-angle shot from below the right faceoff circle, and Zuccarello iced it just over six minutes later. Ennis avoided a second shutout by Lundqvist this season with his fifth goal.
