Sharks 5, Lightning 1: Tommy Wingels scored twice for his first career multi-goal game while Logan Couture and Patrick Marleau each recorded three-point performances as San Jose rolled over visiting Tampa Bay.

Marleau scored a goal and set up two others and Couture notched three assists for the Sharks, who received 36 saves from Antti Niemi for his 11th win. Brent Burns, who was sidelined since Oct. 19 with an upper-body injury, scored in his return and defenseman Brad Stuart also tallied his second of the season for San Jose.

Tyler Johnson broke up Niemi’s shutout bid 7:39 into the third period after a nifty pass from linemate Ondrej Palat set him up in the slot. Anders Lindback made 31 saves for Tampa Bay, which has lost three in a row for the first time this season and plays at Anaheim on Friday.

Marleau won a board battle before Couture slipped the puck to Wingels, whose wrist shot beat Lindback from the bottom of the left faceoff circle 3:39 into the game. Niemi stopped all 12 shots he faced in the opening period, including a big save on Teddy Purcell’s shot from in close.

Lindback made 16 saves in the first session, but Stuart’s screen shot from the left post got by him with 1:57 left for a 2-0 advantage. Wingels scored the only goal of the middle period, hammering home Marleau’s pass from behind the net at 11:47.

Scott Hannan’s blast from the left point went off captain Joe Thornton and then Burns before going in the net to give San Jose a 4-0 lead 4:23 into the third. Only 19 seconds later, Marleau zipped through the middle of the Tampa Bay defense and scored his 11th goal to extend the lead.

Defenseman Justin Braun also registered his first multi-point game of the season with a pair of assists for the Sharks. San Jose won for the fourth time in five games after going 0-1-4 in the previous five and plays the next four at home, starting Saturday against New Jersey.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Braun, Stuart and Couture all finished plus-4 for the Sharks, who had a 37-21 edge in the faceoff circle. … Tampa Bay RW Pierre-Cedric Labrie and D Andrej Sustr were scratched while D Mark Barberio was back after missing the last two contests with an upper-body injury. … Thornton’s assist gave him 1,141 career points, one shy of Nicklas Lidstrom for 50th on the NHL’s all-time scoring list.
