Kings 1, Rangers 0: Ben Scrivens turned aside 37 shots to record his second straight shutout and make rookie Tyler Toffoli's second-period goal stand up as Los Angeles closed out its four-game road trip with a third consecutive victory.
Mike Richards and defenseman Slava Voynov notched assists on Toffoli's fourth goal in five contests for the Kings, who avenged an early-season loss to the Rangers and improved to 5-0-1 in their last six games.
Henrik Lundqvist finished with 29 saves for the Rangers, who failed to convert on five power-play opportunities - including a 50-second stretch with a 5-on-3 advantage - to suffer their third loss in 10 contests.
Scrivens has filled in admirably since Jonathan Quick suffered a lower-body injury in the opener of the road trip. The 27-year-old followed up his 26-save performance in Friday's 2-0 victory over New Jersey by stopping 14 shots in the third to preserve his fifth career shutout - and third this season.
After a scoreless first period, Los Angeles benefited from a fortunate carom to draw first blood at 1:23 of the second. Richards backhanded the puck out of the right corner to Toffoli, who quickly turned and fired a shot from the point that deflected off the left skate of Rangers defenseman Anton Stralman and between the pads of Lundqvist.
GAME NOTEBOOK: New York nearly forged a tie with 2:41 remaining in the third period, but officials deemed that C Dominic Moore shuffled the puck with his skate into the net from the doorstep. ... The teams earned a split of their regular-season series. New York posted a 3-1 victory at Los Angeles on Oct. 7, although the game is likely to be remembered for Quick's miscue that led to an embarrassing goal. ... The Kings held a 40-23 edge in the faceoff circles, with C Anze Kopitar winning 18-of-22 draws. ... Mets RHP Matt Harvey was in attendance at Madison Square Garden.
