Canadiens 4, Islanders 2: Lars Eller and Michael Bournival scored power-play goals nearly three minutes apart late in the second period as host Montreal snapped a four-game winless streak (0-3-1).

Alex Galchenyuk matched Eller with a goal and two assists and Brendan Gallagher netted his third tally in five contests. Carey Price turned aside 24 shots for the Canadiens, who emerged victorious for the first time since a 2-1 win over Dallas on Oct. 29.

Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored to end the Islanders' 0-for-25 drought on the power play. Brock Nelson added another goal with the man advantage and captain John Tavares notched a pair of assists for the Islanders, who were outscored 16-6 while losing all four contests on their road trip.

Michael Grabner's delay-of-game penalty set the stage for Eller's one-timer that got past Montreal native Kevin Poulin (27 saves), giving the Canadiens a 2-1 lead with 3:46 remaining in the second period. Defenseman Thomas Hickey's high-sticking penalty put Montreal on a four-minute power play, and Bournival made the Islanders pay by deflecting blue-liner Raphael Diaz's slap shot with 56 seconds left in the session.

Nelson trimmed the deficit 4:10 into the third as a puck caromed off his skate and into the net. Officials deemed that he did not use a distinct kicking motion, but Galchenyuk regained the two-goal advantage midway through the session by tapping home a feed from Eller on a rush.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Canadiens drew first blood at 1:46 of the second period as Gallagher settled a tipped pass from Galchenyuk and beat Poulin for his eighth goal. New York answered 5 1/2 minutes later as Bouchard's shot from the left point handcuffed Price. ... New York C Thomas Vanek was a spectator after suffering an upper-body injury during Saturday's 5-2 loss to Columbus. Nelson replaced Vanek on the top line. ... Islanders LW Matt Martin wristed a shot that dented the mask of Price, causing a brief delay early in the second period.
