Dustin Penner scored a goal and set up three others, defenseman Cam Fowler notched a goal and an assist in his second straight game and Andrew Cogliano also tallied for the Ducks, who improved to 7-0-0 on home ice and 7-0-1 in their last eight overall contests. Rookie Frederik Andersen made 25 saves to post his fifth win in as many appearances this season.

Mikhail Grigorenko scored both goals and Cody McCormick notched two assists for the Sabres, who completed a 1-2-0 California road trip. Ryan Miller allowed all six goals on 34 shots over two periods before Jhonas Enroth stopped all 12 shots he faced in the third.

Getzlaf began his career performance 2:11 into the game, when he ripped a rebound past Miller from the left hash marks during a power play to open the scoring. The veteran gave Anaheim a 3-1 lead with a shot from the inner edge of the right faceoff circle with 3:31 remaining in the first period and completed the hat trick by sliding a backhander around Miller 20 seconds before intermission.

Penner made it 5-1 by backhanding a rebound past Miller from the right side of the crease at 4:53 of the second. After Grigorenko converted a cross-slot pass from Corey Tropp at 13:09 to cap his two-goal effort, Cogliano scored from the doorstep with 67 seconds left in the session to provide the final margin.
