Hurricanes 1, Islanders 0: Justin Peters made 21 saves for his third career shutout as Carolina continued its dominance of visiting New York.

Radek Dvorak scored the lone goal and Peters made it stand up for his second straight victory after opening the season with five consecutive losses. The Hurricanes beat the Islanders for the second time this campaign and extended their winning streak over New York to five games.

Kevin Poulin turned aside 23 shots in absorbing the hard-luck loss for the Islanders, who fell to 0-2-0 on their four-game road trip.

The Hurricanes scored the only goal 6:39 into the contest, when defenseman Ron Hainsey flicked a puck at the net from the right point and Dvorak redirected it past Poulin. It was Dvorak's third goal of the season and first since Oct. 6.

New York was unable to get the equalizer, coming up empty on three power-play chances to fall to 0-for-21 with the man advantage over its last six games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Hurricanes prevailed despite being limited to one goal for the fifth time in seven games. They have scored eight goals in that span. ... Islanders RW Cal Clutterbuck sat out due to an upper-body injury sustained in Tuesday's game while D Aaron Ness made his season debut after being recalled from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League. ...
