Stars 4, Sabres 3: Tyler Seguin had a goal and an assist and captain Jamie Benn scored the decisive tally as visiting Dallas spoiled the Buffalo debut of Matt Moulson.

Vernon Fiddler and defenseman Alex Goligoski each scored their first goals of the season and Kari Lehtonen turned aside 22 shots to give Stars coach Lindy Ruff the victory in his return to the city where he coached for 16 years before he was fired last season. Erik Cole had two assists for Dallas, which won for only the third time in its last 11 trips to Buffalo.

Moulson, who was acquired for Thomas Vanek in a blockbuster deal with the New York Islanders on Sunday night, scored a pair of goals and captain Steve Ott burned his former team by also tallying. Ryan Miller made 25 saves in absorbing his fifth consecutive defeat for the Sabres, who remained winless (0-7-1) on their home ice.

Fiddler put the Stars ahead 2:59 into the game, but Moulson quickly endeared himself to the Buffalo faithful by burying a one-timer only 27 seconds later on his first shot. Goligoski and Seguin scored 1:12 apart late in the opening period to give Dallas a 3-1 lead.

Benn stretched the lead to 4-1 just past the midway point of the second before Ott converted from in close on the power play two minutes later. Moulson pulled the Sabres within one with his second tally, gaining control of a puck that struck him in the leg and deftly putting a backhander over Lehtonen with 2:43 left in the period.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Moulson became the sixth Buffalo player to score on his first shot with the franchise and the first Sabre with a multiple-goal game this season. ... Seguin's goal and assist gave him 14 points in 16 career games against Buffalo. ... Ruff, the winningest coach in Sabres history, received a standing ovation when a video tribute was shown on the scoreboard during the first television timeout.
