Blue Jackets 3, Canucks 1: R.J. Umberger scored with 8:46 remaining in the third period to snap a tie and Curtis McElhinney turned aside 37 shots in his first start in nearly two years as host Columbus ended its four-game losing streak.

Marian Gaborik tallied in his return from the flu and Ryan Johansen sealed the win with an empty-net goal with 27 seconds left in the third period. Artem Anisimov had an assist to increase his point streak to three contests for the Blue Jackets, who earned their first home victory.

Captain Henrik Sedin scored a power-play goal midway through the second period to extend his point streak to five games. Eddie Lack finished with 26 saves for the Canucks, who fell to 2-1-1 on their season-high seven-game road trip and 12-1-2 against the Blue Jackets since Jan. 5, 2010.

With the game tied at 1-1, Umberger accepted a nifty tape-to-tape feed from Johansen before wristing a shot that got past Lack and trickled over the goal line. The tally was the first of the season for Umberger, who was selected by the Canucks with the 16th overall pick of the 2001 draft.

Vancouver enjoyed the better of play from the onset, but Columbus drew first blood despite being outshot 13-2 in the first period. Anisimov's turnaround blast from just outside the right faceoff circle was deflected by Gaborik, who extended his stick from the doorstep for his third goal. Sedin answered by jamming home a rebound following Ryan Kesler's between-the-legs backhand shot.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gaborik's goal gave Columbus its first lead in 207 minutes, 9 seconds - dating back to the second period versus Boston on Oct. 12. ... Sedin's power-play tally was the team's first since Oct. 5, snapping an 0-for-14 drought. ... McElhinney was making his first start since Dec. 31, 2011 while a member of the Phoenix Coyotes.
