Oilers 3, Senators 1: Devan Dubnyk turned aside 35 shots to earn his first win of the season and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had two goals and an assist as visiting Edmonton halted a five-game skid.
Jordan Eberle added a goal and an assist as the Oilers won for only the second time in nine games (2-6-1). Nugent-Hopkins' empty-net tally sealed it for Edmonton, which lost Taylor Hall to a left knee injury late in the second period.
Robin Lehner made 18 saves and Chris Neil scored for Ottawa, which was denied in its bid for a third straight victory and lost for the third time in the last 11 meetings with the Oilers.
The newly configured line of Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov accounted for both of Edmonton's goals in the first period. Eberle opened the scoring at the 2:15 mark, leading a 2-on-1 with an end-to-end rush down the right side and slipping the puck past the left skate of Lehner.
Nugent-Hopkins doubled the advantage just over eight minutes later, pouncing on the rebound of Yakupov's snap shot and easily beating Lehner from the left side as the Oilers took a 2-0 lead after the first 20 minutes despite being outshot 15-7. Dubnyk, who entered with a ghastly 4.91 goals-against average, had his shutout bid thwarted when Neil knocked home a rebound with 5:48 left in the game.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Hall, who set a franchise record Thursday with two goals in eight seconds, hurt his left knee when he was pinned against the boards by Senators D Eric Gryba late in the second period and did not return. ... Neil's goal also was his first point of the season for Ottawa, which outshot an opponent for only the second time. ... Yakupov, last year's No. 1 overall pick who had been benched for a couple of games, notched his first point of the season with an assist on Nugent-Hopkins' first tally.
