Wild 2, Sabres 1: Jason Pominville made a triumphant return to Buffalo, scoring a power-play goal late in the second period to snap a tie and lead visiting Minnesota to victory.
Kyle Brodziak also tallied and Josh Harding made 22 saves for the Wild, who kicked off their four-game road trip with a third straight win.
Pominville, who spent parts of his first nine seasons in the NHL with Buffalo, completed a nifty set of passes for his second goal of the campaign. With 9.7 seconds remaining in the period, the former Sabres captain received a feed from Mikko Koivu and unleashed a shot from low in the right faceoff circle that caromed off Jhonas Enroth's left arm and into the net for a 2-1 lead.
Brian Flynn scored and Enroth stopped 18 shots for Buffalo, which had its season-opening winless streak reach seven games (0-6-1). It matches the franchise's longest stretch of futility to start a campaign set in 1990-91 and equaled in 1999-2000.
Brodziak opened the scoring at 5:23 of the first session, beating Enroth from the inner edge of the right circle after accepting a cross-slot pass from Matt Cooke. The Sabres pulled even with 4:56 left in the second when Flynn buried his own rebound from the left side of the crease.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The start of the second period was delayed approximately 15 minutes due to a power outage on one end of the arena. ... Buffalo went 0-for-4 on the power play and is just 2-for-25 with the man advantage through seven games. ... The Sabres have scored fewer than two goals in all but one contest this season and have yet to net three or more in a game.
