Predators 3, Islanders 2: Ryan Ellis snapped a tie at 3:23 of the third period and fellow defenseman Seth Jones scored his first career goal as host Nashville continued its dominance of New York.

Patric Hornqvist also tallied, Ellis added an assist and Pekka Rinne stopped 14 shots for the Predators, who have won six straight home meetings with the Islanders and eight of nine overall in the all-time series.

Frans Nielsen and captain John Tavares scored for New York, which lost in regulation for just the third time in its last 18 regular-season contests. Kyle Okposo notched two assists and Evgeni Nabokov finished with 28 saves.

Ellis helped the Predators improve to 2-1-0 on their five-game homestand with what appeared to be an innocent shot. It proved to be anything but innocent for Nabokov, who was unable to stop the blast Ellis unleashed just after crossing the blue line.

Jones opened the scoring with a slap shot from the top of the left faceoff circle past Nabokov during a power play 63 seconds into the second period. The Islanders surged ahead later in the session as Nielsen and Tavares tallied 2:49 apart, but Hornqvist beat Nabokov with a wrist shot from the top of the right circle with 53 seconds remaining to forge a 2-2 tie.

GAME NOTEBOOK: New York has not won in Nashville since April 2002. ... The Predators improved to 11-3-2 in the all-time series. ... Jones, the fourth overall pick in June's draft, registered an assist against Minnesota on Tuesday for his first NHL point.
