Canadiens 4, Oilers 1: Brendan Gallagher and Brandon Prust scored 2:41 apart midway through the second period to erase a deficit and lead visiting Montreal past Edmonton.

Gallagher and Alex Galchenyuk finished with a goal and an assist apiece, Max Pacioretty added an empty-netter and defenseman P.K. Subban set up three tallies for the Canadiens, who are 1-1-0 on their four-game road trip. Peter Budaj made 27 saves in his season debut.

Ryan Smyth scored a power-play goal and Devan Dubnyk stopped 23 shots for the Oilers, who have lost three of their first four games under first-year coach Dallas Eakins.

Smyth opened the scoring at 2:28 of the first period, deflecting Taylor Hall's pass past Budaj while lying on the ice at the top of the crease. Gallagher forged a tie during a man advantage at 9:24, converting a cross-slot pass from Galchenyuk while at the left side of the crease.

Prust put Montreal ahead when he buried a loose puck in front after Travis Moen's shot from the left faceoff circle was off the mark. Galchenyuk beat Dubnyk from the left circle after receiving a cross-slot pass from Gallagher during a 2-on-1 rush, giving Edmonton a two-goal advantage.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Eakins made a bold move in the third period, pulling Dubnyk for an extra attacker with over four minutes remaining and the Oilers down by two goals, but Pacioretty put away the game with 18 seconds to play. ... Edmonton lost to Montreal at home for just the third time in the last 11 matchups. ... Subban has collected five points (one goal) over the first two games of the Canadiens' road trip.
