Flames 3, Canadiens 2: Rookie Sean Monahan had a goal and an assist as Calgary remained unbeaten in regulation with a win over visiting Montreal.

Curtis Glencross scored the game-winner and Sven Baertschi added his first of the season for the Flames, who have two wins and two extra-time losses to open the season. Joey MacDonald preserved the victory with a 33-save performance.

Reigning Norris Trophy winner P.K. Subban and Lars Eller replied for the Canadiens, who fell just short in the opener of their four-game jaunt through western Canada. Carey Price turned aside 22 shots in defeat.

Monahan opened the scoring 9:09 into the game, banging a rebound of Lee Stempniak's shot into an open net following a Montreal turnover at center ice. The rookie was in on Calgary's second goal with 1:27 remaining in the period, sliding a cross-crease pass to Baertschi for his first of the season.

Glencross extended the advantage late in the second period, tipping in defenseman Dennis Wideman's point shot with Montreal's Francis Bouillon serving a boarding penalty. The Canadiens countered 1:24 later on a power-play goal from Subban and drew to within one just past the midway point of the third on Eller's team-high fourth of the season, Subban torpedoed his team's chances at completing the rally, taking a cross-checking penalty with 1:49 remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
