Rookie Sean Monahan scored his first NHL goal and T.J. Galiardi added his first with the Flames, who rebounded from a season-opening shootout loss to the Washington Capitals on Thursday. Joey MacDonald made 29 saves in his season debut.

Marian Gaborik and defenseman Jack Johnson each finished with a goal and an assist while Artem Anisimov also tallied for Columbus, which finished 1-for-3 on the power play. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 26 shots.

Hudler blasted a slap shot from the left faceoff dot that fooled Bobrovsky with 7:50 remaining in the third period to snap a 2-2 tie. Glencross added to the lead on the next shift, firing a loose puck into an open net from the doorstep.

Anisimov stuffed the puck past MacDonald after it caromed off the end boards to pull the Blue Jackets within one with 4:13 remaining in the contest. Johnson denied an empty-net goal with 1:09 left but was called for interference in the process, effectively ending Columbus’ comeback attempt.
