Bruins 4, Maple Leafs 3 (OT): David Krejci completed his second career playoff hat trick 13:06 into overtime as visiting Boston seized a 3-1 advantage against Toronto in their Eastern Conference first-round series.

Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf took himself out of the play while attempting to hit Nathan Horton as the Bruins were exiting their zone. Krejci skated in with Milan Lucic on a 2-on-1 rush and found a hole between Reimer’s torso and right arm as the puck trickled into the net.

Krejci scored twice in regulation and Patrice Bergeron snapped a 12-game goalless drought for the fourth-seeded Bruins, who have a chance to end the series on Friday when they host Game 5. Tuukka Rask stopped 45 shots and captain Zdeno Chara added four assists.

Joffrey Lupul had a goal and an assist, Clarke MacArthur recorded his first career playoff tally and defenseman Cody Franson also scored for the fifth-seeded Maple Leafs, who outshot the Bruins for the second straight contest. James Reimer made 41 saves.

Toronto held a 2-0 lead when Lupul opened the scoring on a pass from Phil Kessel 2:35 into the contest and Franson’s quick point shot floated past a screened Rask with 1:28 remaining in the first period. Bergeron scored on a power play 32 seconds into the second period and Krejci’s pair gave the Bruins a 3-2 advantage before MacArthur pounced on a loose puck in the slot to knot the contest heading into the third.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Toronto D Mark Fraser was hit in the head by a slap shot from Lucic midway through the third period and left the game with a towel pressed to his forehead, leaving a pool of blood on the ice. … Krejci, who led Boston with 23 points when it won the Stanley Cup in 2011, has 10 points in the series. … Bruins D Johnny Boychuk led all players with seven blocked shots.
