Blues 3, Blackhawks 1: Rookie Jaden Schwartz recorded his first career two-goal performance to help host St. Louis secure home-ice advantage in the opening round of the playoffs.

Patrik Berglund also scored for the Blues, who finished in fourth place in the Western Conference and will host the Los Angeles Kings to open their postseason. Brian Elliott made 22 saves to improve to 11-2-0 in April.

Ben Smith tallied for Presidents’ Trophy-winning Chicago, which rested a large number of its regulars - including Patrick Kane, Marian Hossa, captain Jonathan Toews and defenseman Duncan Keith. Carter Hutton stopped 25 shots in his NHL debut for the Blackhawks, who will face eighth-seeded Minnesota in the first round.

Schwartz made it 2-0 with 2:36 remaining in the first period, taking a pass on the doorstep and sliding the puck around Hutton. Schwartz added his second of the contest at 8:39 of the middle session, when he drove between two Chicago defenders and put a backhand shot between Hutton's pads.

Berglund opened the scoring by flipping a rebound into the net 4:33 into the game for his 17th goal. Playing in his first game since Jan. 24, 2012, Smith ended Elliott’s bid for a fourth shutout this month with a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle at 8:23 of the third period.
