Canadiens 6, Sabres 1: Rene Bourque and David Desharnais scored two goals apiece as host Montreal celebrated the return of defenseman P.K. Subban with its most dominant performance of the season.

Lars Eller had a goal and two assists and rookie Brendan Gallagher also scored for the Canadiens, who outshot Buffalo 15-1 in the first period.

Carey Price made 30 saves for his fifth win of the season, but Sabres leading scorer Thomas Vanek spoiled the shutout bid on a breakaway 3:01 into the third period.

Bourque opened the scoring on a power play with eight seconds remaining in the first period, driving to the net and tipping in a centering pass from captain Brian Gionta. Gallagher made it 2-0 early in the second when his centering pass to fellow rookie Alex Galchenyuk deflected off Buffalo defenseman Tyler Myers’ stick.

Eller and Desharnais scored 28 seconds apart midway through the second to extend the lead on the Sabres and goaltender Ryan Miller, who was pulled after allowing four goals on 21 shots in two periods. Subban drew a roughing penalty on John Scott 11:24 into the third and assisted on Desharnais' second goal of the game on the ensuing power play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Miller has allowed four goals in each of his last three starts. … The Sabres were held under two goals for just the second time this season. … Galchenyuk won nine of 11 faceoff draws and finished with two assists.
