Jets 5, Islanders 4 (OT): Evander Kane scored 1:59 into overtime as host Winnipeg overcame a two-goal deficit midway through the third period to record its third straight victory.
Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien had a power-play goal and Alex Burmistrov, Alexei Ponikarovsky and Bryan Little netted their respective first tallies of the season. Former Islander Al Montoya made his season debut and finished with 21 saves for the Jets.
Matt Moulson collected his 100th goal with the Islanders and John Tavares netted his first of the season. David Ullstrom also tallied to extend his point streak to four games and captain Mark Streit had a power-play goal for New York, which is 1-1-1 on its five-game road trip.
Olli Jokinen's bid for the winner in overtime hit the post behind Evgeni Nabokov, who made 30 saves. But Kane alertly knocked home a loose puck as it sat on the goal line to send the MTS Centre into a frenzy.
New York forged a 4-2 lead as Moulson tipped Tavares' shot from the point at 5:09 of the third and Streit buried a blast from the blue line nearly five minutes later. Winnipeg answered as Byfuglien's point shot rang off the post and into the net and Burmistrov's snap shot sailed under the crossbar to tie the contest with 5:56 remaining.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Neil Sheehy, the agent for New York D Lubomir Visnovsky, posted on his Twitter account that his client will return to the team "no later than Feb. 11th, possibly sooner." Visnovsky has been away from the team because of "personal medical reasons within his immediate family." Visnovsky was suspended by the Islanders for failing to report to the team for the start of the season. ... Moulson had six goals in 29 games with Los Angeles to begin his NHL career. ... The Islanders killed off their first 16 short-handed situations prior to Byfuglien's goal.
