BRUINS 1, CAPITALS 0 (OT):
Chris Kelly scored the only goal of the contest at 1:18 in overtime as host Boston won the series opener against Washington.

Kelly unleashed a slap shot from the top of the circle that beat Braden Holtby glove side to send the home crowd into a frenzy.

Kelly's teammates pinned him against the glass in celebration after the goal. A pane of glass eventually popped loose and shattered on the ice.

The Bruins dominated the first two periods - building a 26-7 shot advantage - but the Capitals pushed back in the third frame, outshooting Boston 9-3.

Alex Ovechkin had a chance to put the Capitals up 1-0 midway through the third period with a crisp one-timer that just grazed the pad of Tim Thomas and fell wide of the goal.

Thomas made 17 saves for his sixth career playoff shutout.

Holtby made 29 saves in his NHL playoff debut.
