Brandon Dubinsky scored with 1:39 remaining in the third period to lift the New York Rangers to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Washington Capitals in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series Sunday afternoon.

With both teams down a man, Dubinsky grabbed the puck in the left corner and skated to the net. The puck popped into the air, caromed off Capitals defenseman Karl Alzner and into the net to snap a 2-2 deadlock.

Erik Christensen and Vinny Prospal also scored, Dubinsky added an assist and Henrik Lundqvist made 23 saves for the Rangers, who trail 2-1 in the series and host Game 4 on Wednesday.

Alex Ovechkin had a goal and an assist, Mike Knuble also tallied and Michal Neuvirth stopped 32 shots for Washington.

After the third straight scoreless first period in the series, New York took the lead 5 1/2 minutes into the second. Christensen unleashed a shot from below the right faceoff circle that sailed under the crossbar for his first career playoff goal.

Washington pulled even with exactly one minute left in the session as Jason Arnott dished the puck from the top of the right circle to Ovechkin, who redirected it past Lundqvist from the doorstep for his second tally of the series.

New York thought it moved ahead late in the period as the puck crossed the goal line after Ruslan Fedotenko fired it into the crease from the left corner. After video review, it was determined time had expired, keeping the contest tied at 1-1.

The Rangers did take the lead at 8:01 of the third, when Prospal buried a rebound from the right side of the crease. But Knuble did the same from the doorstep during a power play with 5:12 remaining to forge a 2-2 tie.
