Milan Lucic, David Krejci and rookie Tyler Seguin also had a goal and an assist apiece, Mark Recchi and Gregory Campbell tallied and Tuukka Rask made 34 saves for the Bruins, who halted their three-game losing streak.

Wheeler snapped a 16-game goalless drought 1:52 into the game and Recchi doubled the lead just over five minutes later with his first tally in 10 contests. Campbell scored for the second time in as many games midway through the first period and Krejci netted his second goal in 24 matches just 55 seconds into the middle session for a 4-0 bulge.

Seguin chased rookie Nathan Lawson, who allowed five goals on 18 shots, at 2:48 of the second with his third goal in five games and Lucic converted a power-play chance at 7:17 for his team-leading 24th tally.

John Tavares scored twice and Josh Bailey also tallied for the Islanders, who had their season-high four-game winning streak snapped.

Rookie Michael Grabner had his six-game goal-scoring streak stopped as New York lost for the sixth time in its last eight home contests.
