Dainius Zubrus recorded a goal and an assist and Martin Brodeur made 25 saves to lead the visiting New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers on Thursday.

Ilya Kovalchuk and Brian Rolston also scored as the Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second period and then held on for the win despite a strong push from the Rangers.

Kovalchuk opened the scoring just 64 seconds into the first period when he accepted a feed from Zubrus and snapped a wrist shot over Henrik Lundqvist’s shoulder for his 15th goal of the season.

Zubrus then got credit for his ninth of the season at 8:01 of the second period when defenseman Dan Girardi tried to sweep the puck off the goal line but had it deflect off Lundqvist’s back.

Rolston made it 3-0 and increased his points streak to seven games by ripping a one-timer from the right point, sending Lundqvist to the bench in favor of Martin Biron. Lundqvist made just nine saves.

Ryan Callahan scored at 16:25 mark of the second to put New York on the board and Vinny Prospal added a power-play goal 2:21 into the third period in his first game of the season following a knee injury.

The Rangers hit the post with less than one second remaining in regulation and Biron finished with six saves.
