Tyler Kennedy and Chris Kunitz scored first-period goals and Brent Johnson made 20 saves before getting tossed for fighting as the Pittsburgh Penguins extended their winning streak to four games Wednesday with a 3-0 home victory over the New York Islanders.

Maxime Talbot added an empty-netter and defenseman Paul Martin notched a pair of assists for the Penguins, who have won seven of eight overall and four straight at home.

Johnson turned aside five shots in the first period, seven in the second and eight in the third. He lost his chance for his 15th career shutout and second this season when he was ejected after engaging in a fight with Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro with 17 seconds to play

The fracas started when DiPietro collided with Pens pest Matt Cooke, prompting a scrum in the corner of the rink. Johnson skated the length of the ice to engage DiPietro and dropped his counterpart to the ice with a left hook before referees intervened.

All-Star Marc-Andre Fleury finished up in net without facing a shot to receive a share of the combined shutout.

Pittsburgh took advantage of its first power-play chance to get on the board. With New York's Zenon Konopka serving a roughing penalty, Kennedy beat DiPietro at 8:08 of the first period for his eighth goal of the season and just his second in 10 games.

Kunitz doubled the lead just over five minutes later, putting a backhander past DiPietro with 6:50 remaining in the opening session. It was the fifth goal and eighth point in eight games for Kunitz.

Before also being tossed, DiPietro made 19 saves for the Islanders, who have lost nine of their last 12 contests. Rookie Kevin Poulin stopped one shot in relief.
