Simon Gagne tallied twice and Steven Stamkos netted his NHL-leading 38th goal of the campaign to highlight a five-goal second period as the Tampa Bay Lightning completed a season sweep of the reeling Atlanta Thrashers with a 7-1 home victory on Sunday.

Martin St. Louis and defenseman Pavel Kubina collected a goal and an assist apiece, Nate Thompson and Dana Tyrell also tallied and Teddy Purcell notched three assists as Southeast Division-leading Tampa Bay (30-15-5) cruised to its fourth win in a row.

The scoring outburst was more than enough for Dwayne Roloson, who fell just over four minutes shy of securing his third shutout with his new team. The 41-year-old netminder, who joined the Lightning on New Year's Day, turned aside 21 shots in this one.

The decisive victory was a triumphant start to a 12-game homestand for the Lightning, who improved to 15-4-2 at the St. Pete Times Forum this season.

Thompson started the onslaught 14 seconds into the second period with a shorthanded tally and Tyrell doubled the advantage just 1:42 later.

Stamkos then extended his scoring streak to six games just over 3 1/2 minutes later. The former top overall pick has nine goals and three assists in six games against the Thrashers this season.

By registering his 67th point, Stamkos also surpassed Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby for the NHL lead.

Rich Peverley netted his 13th goal of the season for Atlanta (23-20-9), which has dropped seven of its last eight.

Ondrej Pavelec (16-12-7) permitted three goals on 19 shots before being relieved by Peter Mannino, who finished with 16 saves.
