Nathan Gerbe netted a power-play goal and Calder Memorial Trophy winner Tyler Myers scored just over two minutes apart early in the third period as the Buffalo Sabres skated to a 5-3 road triumph over the New York Islanders on Sunday.

Tyler Ennis collected a goal and an assist and Paul Gaustad scored just 15 seconds into the game for Buffalo (22-21-5), which defeated New York for the first time this season. The Islanders were attempting to defeat the Sabres for the third time in eight days.

Jason Pominville sealed the win with an empty-net tally with 24 seconds remaining in the third period.

Making his 25th consecutive start, defending Vezina Trophy winner Ryan Miller finished with 31 saves to improve to 20-14-4 this season.

Matt Moulson tallied twice and defenseman Jack Hillen scored for the second time in as many games for New York (15-25-7), which is just two points above the New Jersey Devils (16-29-3) and the Edmonton Oilers (14-25-7) in the NHL's basement.

Former top overall pick John Tavares notched a pair of assists for the Islanders.

After recovering from a bout with the flu, Rick DiPietro turned aside 18 shots to fall to 7-8-4 this season.
