New York (25-15-3) received goals from rookie Derek Stepan and Avery a little over six minutes apart in the second period to erase a one-goal deficit. The Rangers improved to 10-1-1 on the second night of back-to-back games this season.

St. Louis (20-14-6) opened the scoring on a goal by Brad Winchester at the 2:13 mark of the second period.

New York leveled the contest at 9:13 on Stepan’s 12th goal of the season. Fellow rookie Mats Zuccarello, who scored the Rangers’ game-winning goal in overtime on Friday night, was credited with the assist.

Avery then scored his second goal of the season at the 15:26 mark to give New York the lead for good.

Backup goalie Martin Biron picked up the win by turning aside 24 shots.

Jaraslov Halak made 22 saves for the Blues.
