John Tavares scored the winner 3:52 into overtime as the New York Islanders continued their recent hot play with a 4-3 road victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday afternoon.

Tavares' 14th goal of the season put the Islanders in the win column for the eighth time in the past 11 games. New York registered just five wins in its first 27 games to open the year.

The Avalanche made things interesting after Milan Hejduk scored the tying goal with four seconds remaining in the third period and the Colorado net empty for an extra attacker.

Jeremy Colliton had a pair of goals for the Islanders, just the second and third of his career – his first came back on Apr. 15, 2006. Blake Comeau added a goal and an assist in the win while Kevin Poulin stopped 34 shots for his first career NHL victory.

Hejduk finished with a pair of goals while David Koci added a single for the Avalanche. Colorado netminder Craig Anderson stopped 23 shots in defeat.
