John Tavares scored 3:23 into overtime as the New York Islanders snapped the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning's four-game winning streak with a 2-1 triumph on Wednesday.
Tavares collected his own rebound and tucked the puck past Dan Ellis for his ninth goal of the season for New York (7-18-6), which improved to 3-17-4 in its last 24 contests.
P.A. Parenteau netted his sixth goal of the season with 17 seconds remaining in the second period and Andrew MacDonald notched a pair of assists in this one.
Dwayne Roloson finished with 34 saves to up his season record to 3-12-1.
Ryan Malone recorded a power-play goal midway through the first period for Tampa Bay (19-10-5), which entered the contest with the league's best success rate with the man advantage (24.6 percent).
Ellis turned aside 26 shots while assuming the role as the team's unquestioned starter. Mike Smith suffered a minor knee sprain during Tuesday's practice and is expected to be sidelined for at least two weeks.
