Nikolay Zherdev scored a pair of goals to lift the Flyers to their fifth consecutive victory, a 4-1 home triumph over the New York Rangers on Saturday afternoon.

Philadelphia took a 1-0 lead midway through the second period. Mike Richards hit Zherdev from deep in his own zone with a perfect no-look pass as Zherdev was coming out of the penalty box after serving a minor penalty.

Zherdev converted the breakaway with a backhander past Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist.

Andreas Nodl made it 2-0 early in the third following a Ranger turnover.

Derek Stepan trimmed the deficit to 2-1, capping a flurry of New York chances with a goal at 8:23. Philadelphia (22-7-5) then put the game away with a goal from Ville Leino and Zherdev’s second of the contest.

Brian Boucher made 24 saves for the victory, improving to 6-0-1 in his last seven starts.

Lundqvist stopped 35 shots for the Rangers (20-14-1).
