Brad Marchand snapped a second-period tie with a shorthanded goal and Milan Lucic tallied twice as the Boston Bruins extended their home winning streak to three games Thursday with a 5-2 triumph over the New York Islanders.

Michael Ryder and Patrice Bergeron also scored and Tuukka Rask made 33 saves in his first start since Nov. 28 for the Bruins, who have won seven of their last eight home games with the Islanders and nine of 11 meetings overall.

Marchand capitalized on a miscue by Rick DiPietro to put Boston ahead for good.

With New York on the power play, DiPietro raced out of his crease to beat Marchand to a loose puck. However, the goalie's clearing attempt bounced off the leg of Marchand, who chased down the puck and deposited it into a vacant net with 5:20 remaining in the second for his fourth goal of the season.

Ryder added some much-needed insurance by converting a power-play chance with 5:44 to play in the third. The goal proved crucial as Rob Schremp scored just over two minutes later to get the Islanders within 3-2.

But Lucic, who opened the scoring with six minutes left in the first period, and Bergeron sealed the win with empty-net goals in the final 63 seconds.

Frans Nielsen tallied on a penalty shot and DiPietro stopped 32 shots for New York, which lost its 11th straight road game and 18th in 19 overall.
