Rick DiPietro made 29 saves for his first shutout in more than 10 months, and the New York Islanders ended a 14-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over the visiting New Jersey Devils on Friday afternoon.

It was the first win for New York since it defeated Tampa Bay 3-2 on Oct. 21.

Jesse Joensuu opened the scoring for the Islanders just over a minute into the first period. It was his first goal of the season and just his third career goal.

New York (5-12-5) made it 2-0 in the second period when Rob Schremp scored his second of the season five minutes in the frame.

DiPietro improved to 3-3-4 on the season while recording his first shutout since Jan. 18, also against New Jersey. Three of his 16 career shutouts have come against the Devils.

New Jersey (7-14-2) outshot the defensive-minded Islanders 29-20 in the game and 13-1 in the third period.

Johan Hedberg made 18 saves for the Devils.

Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play.
