Trent Hunter snapped his first goal of the season over Garon’s shoulder to get New York on the board at 10:16 of the first period. The Blue Jackets evened it on a two-man advantage when Vermette directed Derick Brassard's pass by Rick DiPietro at 13:48.

Clark gave Columbus the lead 2:10 later when he scored his fourth goal of the season.

The Islanders came out quickly in the second period as Michal Grabner and John Tavares scored goals 1:33 apart to make it 3-2. But Umberger buried a rebound while falling down for his seventh of the season to even the score again.

DiPietro made 34 saves.
