Matt Duchene had a goal and two assists and Craig Anderson made 25 saves to guide the Colorado Avalanche to a 5-1 win over the visiting New York Rangers on Friday.

The Avalanche scored four times after a scoreless first period to break the game wide open, while Anderson was solid in his first start after he missed 10 games with a knee injury.

David Jones, Kevin Porter, Kevin Shattenkirk and Daniel Winnik also scored for Colorado. Scott Hannan added two assists.

Jones notched his eighth of the season on a rebound after Chris Stewart ripped a slap shot past Henrik Lundqvist to open the scoring 1:04 into the second period.

Porter scored at 7:21 to make it 2-0 before Duchene ripped a wrist shot through a screen at 12:27 of the period to end Lundqvist’s night. Shattenkirk scored his second of the season at 15:07 to close out the period’s scoring.

Rangers rookie Derek Stepan canceled Anderson’s shutout bid with his fourth of the season from Marian Gaborik in the third.

Lundqvist made 13 saves before Martin Biron came on and stopped eight shots.
