Curtis McElhinney turned aside all 27 shots he faced for his first career shutout and Saku Koivu scored 3:40 into the third period as the Anaheim Ducks handed the visiting New York Islanders their eighth consecutive loss with a 1-0 decision on Wednesday.
With the victory, the Ducks (9-7-1) have won six in a row and improved to 6-1-1 at the Honda Center.
The 27-year-old McElhinney turned aside seven shots in the first period, 11 in the second and nine in the third to secure his second win of the season.
Koivu opened the scoring after the Ducks survived a flurry of chances at the other end of the ice. The 35-year-old Finn then beat veteran Dwayne Roloson with a slap shot for his sixth goal of the season - including fourth in as many games.
Rookie Cam Fowler and veteran Teemu Selanne were credited with assists on the play.
Roloson finished with 13 saves en route to dropping his fifth straight start for New York (4-9-2), which hasn't won since Oct. 21 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Islanders have been outscored by a 32-12 margin during their losing skid.
