Erik Cole scored a power-play goal with 3:59 to go in the third period, snapping a tie and leading the Carolina Hurricanes to a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Friday.

Rookie Jeff Skinner netted two goals and set up another while Tuomo Ruutu added a tally and two assists for the Hurricanes, who have won three of their last four road games.

After Skinner's bad-angle shot was stopped by Henrik Lundqvist, Cole swooped in and buried the loose puck from the doorstep to break a 3-3 deadlock. It was the second goal of the campaign for Cole, who also had an assist.

Carolina grabbed a 2-0 lead as Ruutu netted a power-play goal with 4:31 remaining in the first period and Skinner tallied 56 seconds into the second. New York drew even later in the session on man-advantage goals by Ryan Callahan and defenseman Marc Staal, but Skinner completed his first career multi-goal game with 6:41 left in the period to put the Hurricanes back in front.

The lead lasted less than three minutes, however, as Brandon Dubinsky snapped the puck past Cam Ward at 15:43 for his fifth tally of the season.

Ward made 40 saves while Lundqvist stopped 34 shots for the Rangers, who fell to 1-3-1 at home.
