Phil Kessel scored a power-play goal 3:08 into overtime to lift the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Friday night.
Toronto improved to 4-0-0 on the season, its best start since the 1993-94 season.
Kessel scored twice for Toronto, with his game-winning tally coming with Marc Staal in the penalty box due to an interference penalty.
New York’s Brian Boyle scored twice in the third period to tie the game at 3-3. Michal Rozsival also scored for New York.
Toronto scored three unanswered goals in the second period.
Clarke MacArthur netted his fifth goal of the season to begin the scoring. Mike Komisarek and Kessel also scored for the Leafs.
Henrik Lundqvist finished with 34 saves for the Rangers. Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 21 saves for the Leafs.
New York forwards Chris Drury and Martin Gaborik both left the game with early injuries and did not return. Gaborik injured his shoulder and Drury appeared to reinjure his finger that kept him out of the Rangers’ first two games of the season.
