Hurricanes 3, Senators 2: Nathan Gerbe snapped a tie with 5:41 remaining in the third period as Carolina halted its four-game slide on the road.

Gerbe and All-Star defenseman Justin Faulk each finished with a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes, who improved to 2-7-1 in their last 10 away from home. Brad Malone also scored and Anton Khudobin made 30 saves to raise his career record against Ottawa to 5-0-0.

Blue-liner Cody Ceci and Mark Stone tallied for the Senators, who lost for the fifth time in seven contests (2-4-1). Craig Anderson turned aside 25 shots in his 400th NHL game.

Carolina grabbed the lead 32 seconds before the first intermission as Malone beat Anderson from the doorstep after receiving a backhand pass by Patrick Dwyer from behind the net. Ceci forged a tie at 4:19 of the second period, burying a rebound from the right faceoff circle after Khudobin stopped Erik Condra's shot from the top of the left circle.

The Senators moved ahead exactly one minute into the third, when Stone intercepted Chris Terry's pass and beat Khudobin to the glove side from the slot, but the Hurricanes answered 81 seconds later as Faulk's blast from the right point hit Ottawa defenseman Patrick Wiercioch in front and trickled into the net. Gerbe broke the deadlock late in the session, wristing a shot from above the slot that hit Jean-Gabriel Pageau's stick and sailed past Anderson.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Khudobin has won four straight decisions after beginning the season 0-8-2. ... The Hurricanes were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill, extending their streak to 33 consecutive successful kills. ... Senators RW Bobby Ryan was kept off the scoresheet, ending his four-game point streak.
