Iginla opened the scoring at 8:20 of the first period with a shot from high in the right faceoff circle and Stuart doubled the lead nine minutes later by beating Anderson to the stick side with a one-timer from the blue line. Stone converted a pass from captain Erik Karlsson three minutes into the middle session to halve the deficit, but Johnson ripped a shot past a screened Anderson 53 seconds later to restore the two-goal advantage.

Iginla made it 4-1 just 23 seconds into the third, taking a cross-slot feed from Tanguay and beating Lehner from the right circle during a power play. Ryan scored off a giveaway by Johnson 42 seconds later to get Ottawa within two before Briere drilled a shot past Lehner from the right circle at 2:40 to push the lead back to three goals.
