Daniel Briere tallied in regulation and Duchene notched an assist for the Avalanche, who improved to 2-0-0 on their three-game homestand. Semyon Varlamov made 27 saves before denying both shootout attempts he faced as Colorado raised its record to 6-2-2 in its last 10 overall contests.

Benoit Pouliot returned from injury to score the lone goal for the Oilers, whose road winless streak reached 12 games (0-6-6). Ben Scrivens turned aside 27 shots for Edmonton, which hasn't won away from home since defeating the New York Rangers on Nov. 9 and fell to 1-7-4 in its last 12 overall.

After a scoreless first period, Colorado got on the board at 7:55 of the second. Duchene skated behind the net and came out on the left side before backhanding a cross-crease pass to Briere for an easy tap-in.

The Oilers cashed in on a power play early in the third to draw even. Varlamov denied his chance from the doorstep, but Pouliot grabbed his own rebound and buried it at 4:47.
