Bernier denied rookie Johnny Gaudreau with a pad save at one end before Toronto turned the other way and Holland was credited with his second goal after the puck caromed off his skate midway into the first period to open the scoring. The Maple Leafs doubled the advantage 2:51 into the second as Kadri's feed from the right faceoff circle was redirected by van Riemsdyk in front.
Granlund beat Bernier under the crossbar 3:48 into the third to halve the deficit, but Calgary failed to net the equalizer despite outshooting Toronto by a 16-8 margin in the session. Kessel effectively sealed the win with 40 seconds remaining before Santorelli provided the final margin 36 ticks later.
