Blackhawks 3, Devils 2 (SO): Captain Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane each scored in the shootout while rookie Scott Darling denied both attempts he faced as visiting Chicago skated to its seventh straight victory.

After failing to capitalize on Jaromir Jagr's hooking penalty in overtime, the Blackhawks made quick work of New Jersey in the bonus format to secure the extra point and spoil the first career start of rookie Keith Kinkaid (37 saves). Toews beat Kinkaid with a backhand shot in the first round before Kane's wrist shot sealed the win as Chicago improved to 4-1 in shootouts this season.

Bryan Bickell and defenseman Duncan Keith scored in regulation and Darling turned aside 22 shots for the Blackhawks, who have won 10 of their last 11. Patrick Sharp notched an assist and matched Marian Hossa with five shots on goal in his return from a 14-game absence due to a lower-body injury.

Jordin Tootoo and Stephen Gionta tallied for the Devils, who have dropped four straight at home (0-2-2). Steve Bernier recorded a pair of assists to increase his career point total to 199.

Tootoo skated into a loose puck and buried a shot from the right faceoff circle with 4:49 remaining in the first period to open the scoring before Bickell capped an odd-man rush with a sharp wrist shot from the right circle midway into the second. Gionta batted the puck out of the air at 2:31 of the third to give New Jersey its second lead, but Keith cleaned up a rebound with 3:13 remaining in the session to forge a tie.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kinkaid was recalled from Albany earlier in the day and fellow G Scott Clemmensen was sent to the American Hockey League affiliate. The Blackhawks failed on all three power-play opportunities, while the Devils came up empty on their lone chance with the man advantage. ... New Jersey D Eric Gelinas was a healthy scratch, one day removed from being benched in the third period of a 3-1 victory over Carolina.
